TEXAS WINS OBAMACARE TAX LAWSUIT

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is celebrating a court ruling that will recover over $300 million for Texas taxpayers.

The original lawsuit, filed by Texas and five other states against the federal government in October of 2015, fought against an Obama-era regulation that penalized states who didn’t force their taxpayers to pay the Health Insurance Providers Fee to help fund Obamacare. States who refused to pay the fee had their Medicaid funds reduced.

A decision by the Northern U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas ruled that the fee was unconstitutional, ordering the IRS to reimburse the states for the fee.

“Obamacare is unconstitutional, plain and simple,” Paxton said. “We all know that the feds cannot tax the states, and we’re proud to return this illegally collected money to the people of Texas.”

In total, over $839 million was recouped by the states that brought the suit, which include Texas, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Wisconsin, and Nebraska.

The decision is just the latest in a series of executive and judicial moves to dismantle the failed experiment of Obamacare.

Next month, Paxton will join Wisconsin in another court hearing arguing that the Affordable Healthcare Act in its entirety is unconstitutional.

Abandoned KFC restaurant hid drug-smuggling tunnel: officials

HOENIX — Federal authorities have discovered a sophisticated drug-smuggling tunnel that went from a home in Mexico to an abandoned fast-food restaurant in Arizona.

The Homeland Security Investigations division of the Department of Homeland Security says it got word in April that there was a tunnel leading to an old Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant that’s not in operation in San Luis, Arizona, just about 200 yards north of the border.

Police began trailing the owner of the abandoned building, Ivan Lopez, and arrested him this month after finding several packages of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and fentanyl in the back of his truck.

That arrest led to a search at his home and the old restaurant, where agents found a hidden tunnel that led to a house in Mexico and was large enough for people to freely walk through.

One Juror Kept Manafort From Being Convicted on all 18 Counts

Paul Manafort was spared conviction on all 18 counts of bank and tax fraud Tuesday thanks to one holdout juror.

“It was one person who kept the verdict from being guilty on all 18 counts,” juror Paula Duncan, 52, told Fox News.

Duncan, a supporter of President Trump, said she was hoping Manafort would be innocent but was convinced otherwise by “four full boxes of exhibits provided by Mueller’s team,” Fox News reports.

“Finding Mr. Manafort guilty was hard for me. I wanted him to be innocent, I really wanted him to be innocent, but he wasn’t,” Duncan said. “That’s the part of a juror, you have to have due diligence and deliberate and look at the evidence and come up with an informed and intelligent decision, which I did.”

Hospital security guard accused of having sex with dead woman

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Authorities say a security guard at a Tennessee hospital had sex with a dead woman’s body.

News outlets reported Thursday that 23-year-old Cameron Wright is charged with abuse of a corpse. An affidavit says at least two people saw Wright having sex with a woman’s corpse in a body storage room at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.

Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis says in a statement that Wright has since been fired. Police say Wright has admitted to the crime.

The hospital says Wright had undergone a background check and was contracted through US Security Associates.

It’s unclear if Wright has a lawyer. He’s set to appear in court by video on Friday.
