Also, targets are chosen based on levels of conscientiousness. From birth, the targets which are less conscientious are used in various ways and often retain their awareness. Again, from birth, targets with high levels of conscientiousness aren't given a choice.
In the wild, targets high in conscientious traits are likely chosen for these things on purpose more often than their counterparts. These types of people being in use is evidenced, seemingly at least, largely by many of these people not being able to remember anything they've been doing for the past period of time in question.
