Android phones may be collecting 10 times as much personal data from their users as iOS devices do from Apple phone users, according to a new research.

Directed by computer science professor Douglas Schmidt, the research found that around two-thirds of the data Google collected or inferred from an Android user occurred in the background, when users were not notified that their data was being shared.

Even when an Android mobile was entirely stationary and idle over the course of 24 hours, the device still sent about 900 data samples to Google. More than a third of those samples contained location data.

China's banking regulator on Thursday decided to cancel and revise certain regulations on foreign investment in the banking sector in a latest effort to push forward financial opening up.

China will abolish management rules on overseas financial institutions' investment in domestic organs, applying the same market entry and administrative approval policies for both Chinese and foreign investment, according to a statement from the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission.

The commission will also cancel restrictions on foreign holdings in Chinese banking and asset management companies in three other documents.

The new rules specify that when overseas institutions invest in Chinese commercial banks or rural financial organs, supervision and management on such organs should not be changed.

China will create a fair, open and transparent mechanism for foreign investment in the banking sector and keep the system stable and consistent, according to the statement.

China will launch its first solid-propellant carrier rocket developed by a Chinese private company late this year.

The ZQ-1 rocket was developed by Landspace, a Beijing-based rocket-maker. Its technicians are former state-owned aerospace industry workers.

Carrying a small satellite, the rocket will be launched at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Northwest China, the company said Thursday.

ZQ is short for Zhuque (Vermilion bird or phoenix). It is one of the four spirits of ancient Chinese mythology, representing fire and controlling the southerly direction.

The company also plans to launch ZQ-2, a liquid-fueled rocket, in 2020.
