Putin says ‘great progress’ made towards crisis settlement in Syria

President Vladimir Putin announced that a ‘great progress’ was made in the efforts to find a solution to the crisis in Syria.

“Efforts by our countries and the participation of other countries concerned (in particular, I am referring to Iran and our cooperation with the United Nations, the European countries and the United States) we have managed to make great progress towards a settlement of the Syrian crisis,” Sputnik quoted Putin as saying during his meeting on Friday with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison 'on Australia's side'

Scott Morrison will wake for the first time this morning as Australia’s 30th prime minister, with the enormous task ahead of him to repair his battered and bruised party to have any chance of beating Bill Shorten at the next election. He has promised sceptical voters "we are on your side" and yesterday lined up drought, electricity prices, chronic illness healthcare and economic management as his immediate priorities of his new government.

"There has been a lot of talk this week about whose side people are on in this building," Mr Morrison said while standing next to his new deputy leader Josh Frydenberg in Canberra yesterday.

"What Josh and I are here to tell you, as the new generation of Liberal leadership, is that we are on your side."

It came after an embarrassing week for the nation, which has its fifth prime minister in just over five years.

"The last week has been about us and from here on, it is about the Australian people," incoming treasurer Mr Frydenberg said.

Mr Turnbull farewelled the top job with a sunny smile and relieved expression, but he lashed out at the men who destabilised the party.

"Peter Dutton and Tony Abbott and others who chose to deliberately attack the government from within, they did so because they wanted to bring the government down," Mr Turnbull told reporters.

The Wentworth MP will leave parliament "soon", potentially handing Mr Morrison a by-election to deal with and - if the seat is lost - a hung parliament.

EPA Officials Admit To Working With Lobbyists Opposed To Trump’s Agenda

Environmental Protection Agency career staff admitted a Volvo lobbyist helped them procure trucks for emissions testing

That test was then later held up by Volvo to oppose the Trump administration’s plan to roll back Obama-era rule

Agency staffers maintain the study’s results were “independent” of Volvo

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) career staff working at the vehicle testing lab admitted to working with the lobbyist of a company opposed to the Trump administration’s agenda, according to a letter obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

The letter from EPA to lawmakers on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology over alleged collusion between career staff in Michigan and auto industry lobbyists to undermine efforts to repeal Obama-era regulations on gliders — trucks with refurbished engines installed into new chasses.

Volvo “expressed a willingness to assist with EPA’s acquisition of a glider vehicle for testing through its dealership network,” reads the letter. Volvo arranged for two glider trucks to be delivered to EPA, which were tested in late 2017.

However, officials told EPA Assistant Administrator Bill Wehrum the study was conducted “independent of any outside stakeholder input,” adding that “while Volvo did provide unsolicited views on the EPA test program, EPA staff directed and carried out the test program independent from Volvo.”
