I understand that it requires insane energy, but it just struck me as odd that the entire ring would have gold in particular – not a mix of heavy elements, but particuarly gold as if the cross-section of the beam was tuned to create a relatively large amount of gold. Most of the beam synthesis products are in a specific point, and only trace amounts are throughout the ring, though these trace amounts would still be created at the tuned cross-section.
It seems crazy, but these people are wasteful and insane.
if 240 million of trace gold was throughout the ring, how much was synthesized in the target area? what are the specs on the percentage of beam product being 'lost in ring' versus collected in intended collision region? How many times more gold was made at the target if 240 million was on the walls?
