From Q team perspective it doesn't make sense - are they going to "resurrect" him when the time comes to prosecute him?

If the idea was to remove him from the game the cancer story already gave cover for making him resign - no need to fake his death.

The more likely and worse scenario is that he has cheated justice by dying of cancer.
