That's true for all the pawns on the board, whatever country they're in, whatever group they're a part of, all carefully cultivated to fill the niche assigned to them.

 

During World War I everyone was taught to hate Germans, even though a significant percentage of the population had German antecedents. I also remember movies from the thirties and forties where actors affected faintly British accents, like all Americans came from Britain. It's amazing to watch populations being groomed to first hate and then admire other groups over an extended time period. "German engineering" comes to mind. Ragheads named the stars.
