I don't think firewalls would be 'key' people, rather worker bees who would be offered up to 'take the heat' if things got too hot.
Lisa Page and Strzok, for example, who would be 'presented' as rogue agents on a personal mission to stop Trump without the permission/knowledge of their superiors. The appearance of particular people in the public eye when things got hot would tell the rest of the cabal where the white hat pressure was coming from and lead them to shore up the alibis of the superiors in that area.
In this regard, noname's departure from the intrigue means the firewall system didn't/doesn't work. Might be the worker bees are incompetent; might be the good guys are too good; might be the worker bees tattled. Not a warm-fuzzy inducer for the cabal.
