Why is it such a travesty to remove all clearance for ANYONE who is fired from a senior government position? It's a different story if someone retires with their honor still intact (Ron Paul comes to mind), but that so rarely seems to happen any more.

Would an employer in the private sector ever leave access to proprietary information open to a former executive that was fired?

Am I overlooking some important reason why removing security clearance isn't a standard practice?

I understand, and if you left your position in government of your own free will and without scandal, then it makes perfect sense to carry clearance into the private sector. But if you were FIRED FROM GOVERNMENT, should you be trusted with even more government secrets?
