You're missing the real issue with the server. Everyone knew about the server. The server is a character in this movie but not in the way you might think. The server was always intended to be hacked; they wanted it hacked.

It was how the secrets were sold.

But they will say they used the server as an "OP" to catch the bad guys. So the server is an OP to catch bad guys is the cover but what its real purpose is the communication/sale of secrets.

Because it was classified as an "OP", the FBI has no jurisdiction over it. It's a brilliant cover because all the players are, in essence, protected by the cover of it being an op. Once protected, they can use the machine to do whatever they want without the threat of discovery.

Only the President can reveal this as a national security breach. This is why MI is the ONLY chance of this ever becoming public. this is why it is TREASON.

Reread the drops now that you know the server was an "OP".

It all makes sense.
