you can imagine activated charcoal as being microscopic volcanic rock full of pits and crevices, and molecules can get trapped in it, which then gets flushed out with the charcoal. It just travels through your intestinal tract “gathering” things that get trapped in it. It will not take poison out of your body except that which happens to be in your gut tract…. it’s not magical. They give it to people for alcohol poisoning, for instance .. just to soak up any in the stomach/gut
