I saw in the daily mail, the story about the Notting hill carnival of 2018, that was this past weekend in the UK.
This story talked about the arrests, and all the trash they left behind.

They started carnival in the late 1960's, and it is based on caribbean island festivals.

There are several quite different varieties of Devils in the Carnival. They are nearly always called “Jabs”. Jab is the French patois for “Diable” (Devil), and Molassie is the French patois for “Mélasse” (Molasses).

They dress up like oil covered devils, ( very voodoo, pagan like)
They have these carnivals in other countries like Canada.

Sounds like these carnivals, were french in origination.
I was digging in to this earlier, and then Q posted about the french family name.
