The surname Ugoretz is also spelled Ugorets and is of Russian origin. It means, in Russian, a person of Hungarian origin and most commonly was used by Jews who migrated from Hungary into the Russian Empire as part of the Hassidic movement started in the 1740s by Israel Ben Eliezer, the "Baal Shem Tov".
