Calling the process seemingly "arbitrary, opaque and subject to political favoritism," Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., called for the Commerce Department's Office of the Inspector General to launch a probe into the process for granting exemptions to the Trump administration's steel and aluminum tariffs.
"[M]edia reports have raised questions about political interference in the exemption process, and about whether the Administration is making unbiased decisions based upon the facts and the merits of each exemption request," Warren said in a letter to the Commerce Department Inspector General Peggy Gustafson.

Waste Management to reimburse millions for scheme to hire Texas employees without legal work status
The leading waste collection company in North America has agreed to pay back $5.5 million for hiring undocumented workers in Houston to haul trash for a nine-year period.
Several managers at the company were previously convicted in Houston for their roles in the scheme.
Waste Management of Texas signed off Wednesday on a non-prosecution agreement with federal prosecutors in Houston, admitting to a protracted practice of hiring workers without legal status to work in the U.S. at the company's Houston location, according to a joint news release by U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick and Special Agent in Charge Mark Dawson of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.

Voyeur rabbi victims reach $14.25 million settlement
ashington (AFP) – Victims of a prominent Washington rabbi who for years secretly videotaped women as they used a ritual bath reached a $14.25 million settlement with four Jewish organizations, their lawyer confirmed Wednesday.
The settlement covers over 150 women filmed by Bernard “Barry” Freundel, along with other women who undressed where the hidden camera was located even if they were not taped, attorney Alexandra Harwin told AFP Wednesday.
Freundel was sentenced to six and a half years in prison in 2015, after his voyeurism went undetected for years.
Rabbi at the Kesher Israel synagogue in Washington’s upscale Georgetown neighborhood, he placed his secret camera near the mikveh, a bath used to achieve ritual purity in Judaism.
