Wikipedia: The Corona program was a series of American strategic reconnaissance satellites produced and operated by the Central Intelligence Agency Directorate of Science & Technology with substantial assistance from the U.S. Air Force. The Corona satellites were used for photographic surveillance of the Soviet Union (USSR), the People's Republic of China, and other areas beginning in June 1959 and ending in May 1972. The name of this program is sometimes seen as "CORONA", but its actual name "Corona" was a codeword, not an acronym.

program ended in 1972??? I don't think so!!!

Oh Q, be still my beating heart.

Interesting for the technology-minded. Obviously an open-source article is NOT telling us anything about current technology up there. The early satellites did photography with camera and film, and dropped the film cannister into the atmosphere where it parachuted to earth and was supposed to be "hooked" by an airplane with a special claw, or fall into the ocean and retrieved by the Navy. It would sink in 2 days if not retrieved timely. The technology changed after the early versions.

Command-and-control, anon.

Doesn't matter if they are running VMS, UNIX, or whatever. /Ourguys/ have taken control and commanded or disabled these systems. We really do not know how it was done – loss of power & backup power, hacking, simply a command sequence validated by the proper authority, physical demolition, or whatever. Your comments are so 1980 ish.
