If you use a current version of Firefox:

Shift-F2 to bring up developers toolbar (browser command line) at bottom of browser window. Type:

screenshot filename.ext –fullpage

There are some options. It defaults to saving the file in a certain place (depending on your O/S I suppose) and prompts you where it was saved.

Found it while searching for a Firefox extension. Didn't need extension – functionality already there.
