For keks. :)

(The full version is on McSweeney's. Sorry. Not sorry.)

"We live in uncertain times, an era in which our countryโ€™s most iconic institutions are being tested and shaken โ€“ maybe none more so than democracy itself. Itโ€™s incumbent upon all of us to work together to preserve this essential foundation, so each and every fellow citizen can be represented. How do we save democracy and ensure everyone has a voice? Shut up, so I can tell you.

Our great nation was founded on the idea that common people should guide the country together. It was expressly designed to prevent rule by dictators and autocrats, but those strongmen types are now ascendant. We canโ€™t allow them to silence us, especially me. My opinion is the only one that can save us from tyrannical egomaniacs."

Am not promoting anything or anyone, I just thought it was kinda funny.

Oh! Why not enroll in a history class or two at a nearby community college? I know, I know - here's the thing, tho: It can give you a sense of direction about where to really start looking.

Or: Formulate a specific question and call the reference librarians at your local library! These people are possibly one of the most under utilized resources. They may even be able to give you additional and related books, etc.
