Best explanation I've found to explain it is they threatened to investigate the circumstances of his two sons' adoptions. If I recall, and if I'm right, they came from a country that prohibited adoptions outside of the country. In other words, they could only be adopted by fellow countrymen. Either way, someone got to him….someone most likely tied to brennan as it was during bho's (the fraud) rein of terror.
