Tldr: Vatican was built over the old Temple of Cybele, there was an early Pope that wanted human sacrifice at every mass, a huge tract of land was bought by (get this!) Francis Pope in Washington DC before it was a thing and he called it Rome, and the Freedom statue is actually Cybele.
