On Monday evening Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) revealed Congressional investigators have learned the FBI and DOJ previously leaked information to the press then used those same press stories as a separate source to justify seeking FISA warrants on Trump advisor Carter Page. They knew all along the story was bogus and planted the evidence in the liberal media.

On Friday conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch dropped another bombshell. The Justice Department admitted in a court filing that the FISA Court never held hearings on the FISA applications for former Trump advisor Carter Page.

Now it appears and is likely that the Obama administration bypassed the FISA Court to spy on the Trump campaign based on a story they knew to be false.

Amsterdam attacker who stabbed 2 Americans had ‘terrorist motive’ – authorities

The Afghan man suspected of Amsterdam’s Central Railway Station stabbing that injured two Americans on Friday had a “terrorist motive,” local authorities said.

“The victims were not chosen deliberately or with a clear reason,” Amsterdam authorities said, as quoted by AP. “The investigation is still underway, and all scenarios remain open for the investigation team.”

The stabbings took place at Amsterdam’s busy Central Station on Friday afternoon. The two victims were identified as being American, Ambassador Pete Hoekstra said in a statement, adding that the embassy had been in touch with their families.

Both victims have serious but not life-threatening injuries, and are expected to fully recover. "We wish them a speedy recovery and are working closely with the City of Amsterdam to provide assistance to them and their families," Hoekstra said.

The suspected attacker was shot and wounded by police. It is understood that suspect, who was later identified as an Afghan citizen with a German residency permit, did not know the two Americans.

Amsterdam police spokesman Frans Zuiderhoek earlier told AFP that the investigation was “seriously taking into account that there was a terrorist motive.”

On Friday, witnesses described utter chaos as gunshots rang out in Amsterdam’s busiest train station, as thousands of commuters and tourists were evacuated just after noon. Roughly 250,000 travelers use Central Station every day.

Passengers have told how they miraculously survived when a Russian Boeing 737 slid off a runway in Sochi, crashing into a river and catching fire on both wings.

The incident occurred on Saturday night as the flight from Moscow was heading to Sochi during a thunderstorm, strong wind and heavy rain. The first attempt to land failed due to severe weather conditions, so the plane circled around the airport and came in for a second approach to the runway. The landing was successful, but the worst was still to come.

“We crashed, but it’s OK, I guess,” a man can be heard calmly saying in a short clip recorded minutes after the airliner crashed into a river in the southern Russian city of Sochi. The video shows flames blazing in the night, and some people can be heard shouting at the background.

CNN Contributor Smears Mike Pence, Says He’s A ‘Christian Supremacist’ Seeking To ‘Impose Religion’ As President

CNN earlier this week had one of the authors of a new book about Pence on both “New Day” and “CNN Newsroom.” The author, Michael D’Antonio, who is also a CNN contributor, co-authored the book “Shadow President: The Truth About Mike Pence.”

D’Antonio said that Pence, 59, is getting ready to run for president himself, probably in 2024. And the author said with the scandals swirling around Trump, “Everyday Mike Pence imagines he’s one day closer to the Oval Office.”

CNN host John Berman asked D’Antonio about a quote in his book in which he called Pence the first “Christian supremacist” who could become president, LifeNews reports. “Now, he’s not the first committed Christian to be anywhere near the White House,” Berman said. “I mean there have been a lot of deeply religious figures there.”

“I think he’s a very divisive figure. He would like to impose a religiously inspired politics on our country that means rolling back marriage equality, it means a ban on abortion, a whole host of policies that are religiously driven. He’s very upfront about that,” D’Antonio said.

Meghan McCain said her father was a “great man” and she encouraged others to live up to his example, setting a tone that echoed the senator’s own fighting spirit as services began Saturday at the Washington National Cathedral.

“We gather here to mourn the passing of American greatness — the real thing, not cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly, nor the opportunistic appropriation of those who lived lives of comfort and privilege while he suffered and served,” she said, her voice raising from tearful to anger.

She said to applause, “The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great.”

Trump is not on hand for the ceremony, after McCain’s family made clear he was not invited.

Birmingham Mayor Doubles Down On Sanctuary Policy, Dubs City ‘Welcoming’

Birmingham, AL Mayor Randall L. Woodfin is facing a large amount of scrutiny after he said being a sanctuary city wouldn’t be enough and declared Birmingham a “welcoming city” during an interview with NPR’s “Code Switch.”

“I think ‘sanctuary city’ is narrowly tailored and isolated towards don’t have your police enforce certain things of rounding up and hurting people, which I agree with. We’re not going to do that. But ‘welcoming cities’ is more broadly about, how do we help our immigrant community? And as I go to Birmingham city schools, I can tell you our immigrant community continues to grow. So it’s – for me it has a broader positive impact, whereas sanctuary is don’t do this. Welcoming is, this is what we’re going to do,” said Woodfin during the interview.

Woodfin was also questioned on whether or not he would use the city’s resources for immigration enforcement.

“We’re not going to use our police to do anything around what I call rounding up people,” Woodfin told NPR.

Woodfin added, “We just don’t believe in that. I don’t believe in that as mayor. I’ve had a clear, direct conversation with my police chief. I’ve had a clear and direct conversation with my chief of our city jail. We’re not in that business.”

Woodfin also stated that Birmingham police would not ask for the immigration status of individuals.

Throughout the interview, Mayor Woodfin made it clear that ICE would not be enabled by the local police force in Birmingham.

Republicans across the state have taken to social media to challenge Woodfin’s notion and share their thoughts on the issue, especially Alabama Republican Chair Terry Lathan.

“[T]he Bham mayor condoning the breaking of our laws and demanding our law enforcement to do the same. Didn’t he pledge an oath to uphold the LAWS?” Lathan said in a tweet.

Lathan also shared her displeasure with Mayor Woodfin’s statements by tweeting “Apparently [Woodfin] wants to see government break our laws. That will make for an interesting city brochure.”

Ford Brown of Yellowhammer Radio in Birmingham shared his thoughts on the issue surrounding Woodfin’s comments and said, “I think that the biggest city in this state sets the tone for the rest of the state. What is Gov. Kay Ivey going to do about that?”

The Man Who Took Down Richard Nixon Will Testify Against Brett Kavanaugh

John Dean, the erstwhile White House counsel who turned on President Richard Nixon and cooperated with Watergate investigators, will testify in opposition to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation during hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

His testimony will be a key component of a broader Democratic strategy to define Kavanaugh in view of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

Kavanaugh’s past writings suggest he has a rather muscular view of presidential power. As a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, he joined opinions limiting judicial review of detentions at the Guantanamo Bay military prison, and advocating for greater presidential control of the federal workforce. He wrote an article in 2008 for the Minnesota Law Review suggesting Congress enact legislation deferring investigations of sitting presidents until the end of their terms.

“This president who is an unindicted co-conspirator in a criminal matter does not deserve the courtesy of a meeting with his nominee, purposefully selected to protect, as we say in Hawaii, the president’s ‘okole,'” Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii said Aug. 22, with respect to the indictment of Michael Cohen.

Dean was Nixon’s White House counsel from 1970 to 1973. He began cooperating with lawmakers investigating Watergate in April 1973, after he concluded other administration aides were setting him up to take the fall for cover-ups of the 1972 DNC break-in. He went on to serve a brief prison term and has since reemerged in public life as a staunch critic of Trump.

Other witnesses Democrats will call include Rochelle Garza, an attorney who represents pregnant, undocumented minors in federal custody seeking abortions, and Aalayah Eastmond, a survivor of the Parkland high school shootings.
