Justice prosecutors flew by private jet to Iceland and began to
conduct covert interrogations in connection with the investigation
into WikiLeaks, without informing the Icelandic government.
Upon discovering the activities, the Icelandic government
expelled the US agents.They took with them an Icelandic teenager—Sigurdur Thordarson, whom they continued to interrogate
in Denmark—and bribed him to turn over hard drives in his
possession that contained data stolen from WikiLeaks.308 A 2013
parliamentary investigation in Iceland uncovered that Thordarson
had been turned FBI informant against WikiLeaks, and had
been sent to spy on Julian Assange and WikiLeaks staff for the US
investigation.
