I think the color comments are about which attack tactic they plan to use. Similar to color revolutions. Purple was the color they displayed immediately post election.

They signaled something worldwide with a particular color which was probably prevelant at the McCain funeral. The Media is their only form of communication at this point. Perhaps they signaled what their next step was and Q is letting them know he knows their color code.
