I first heard of Google when I was IBM nealry 20 years ago. It was a much superior product than anything we had (and we had a lot of good things). Always figured it was IC/MI product.
I called up a journalist friend when you didn't need a college account to join anymore and ranted into the phone for half an hour like penicillin was just discovered. Told him that the UI and, most importantly, the type of non-tech people (all normalfags) joining made me know this was going to be yuuuge.
He was laughed out of his editor's office.
A year later they made a special big deal about them having a FB page.
