Huma Abedin has returned to Twitter for the first time in two years to pay tribute to Senator John McCain who once defended her when some members of Congress accused her of being part of the Muslim Brotherhood. 

The former Hillary Clinton aide honored the late Senator in a tweet on Sunday after attending his funeral in Washington DC.

'Senator McCain once said, 'Our reputations, our character, are the only things we leave behind when we depart this earth',' Abedin tweeted.

'Being in the cathedral celebrating him showed that words can only strive to capture the greatness of his character. What a legacy to leave on this earth.'
