Q has been curiously silent regarding Antarctica.
Whatever is happening there, most definitely ties in to The Plan and The Show. But I bet any 'giants' are metaphorical.
Most likely, we are talking about research (cloning? eugenics?) and military bases the world doesn't know about. Some of the military activity could be related to transporting people to manned bases elsewhere in the solar system.
