Established in 1818, the National Museum of Brazil - the oldest scientific institution in the country with more than 20 million priceless exhibits and artifacts - was hit by a severe fire Sunday night after its closure, local media reported.

According to media reports, the fire has engulfed the entire central building and firefighters dispatched to the scene are desperately battling the raging flames.

Democrats Erupt After White House Won't Release Bush II-Era Kavanaugh Docs

Democrats slammed the Trump administration on Sunday for refusing to release thousands of documents related to US Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Reuters reports.

Nominated by President Trump in the wake of Justice Anthony Kennedy's retirement, Kavanaugh worked in the White House under former President George W. Bush - whose lawyers pored over extensive records from that time period and concluded in a Friday letter to Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) that 27,000 of them were protected under "constitutional privilege."

The White House directed them not to hand them over to the Senate Judiciary Committee, one of Bush’s lawyers said in a letter to the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which will host the hearings scheduled to start on Tuesday. -Reuters

Meanwhile, another 102,000 pages of Kavanaugh-linked materials were not turned over for other reasons. That said, the committee has been able to review more than 415,000 pages on Kavanaugh’s background, the lawyer said in the letter.

In a Saturday press release, the Senate Judiciary Committee said that they had "expanded access to confidential material beyond that for any other Supreme Court nominee."

Washington - Man Decapitates Girlfriend In Front Of 3-Year-Old Daughter - God Told Him To

A gruesome scene unfolded in Mount Vernon, Washington as a religious man took his girlfriend's head off in front of their 3-year-old daughter at the behest of God. 32-year-old Timothy Paul Hernandez was charged with first-degree murder for slaying his wife. God told him to do it.

The terrifying ordeal started at the 1200 block of North 18th Street on Sunday afternoon where Hernandez and his girlfriend lived with his parents who called police after finding her decapitated body around 12:45 p.m.

Hernadez's parents told police they heard Timothy arguing with his girlfriend the night before and went to church the next morning. When they came home, they found their son's girlfriend Vanessa Cons' dead body. Police found Hernandez at Cascade Mall in Burlington with the 3-year-old daughter.

A detective said, "Timothy advised that he had spoken with God, who told him to strike down his girlfriend … because she did not repent. Timothy stated that he struck her down, and caused for her head to be removed from her body." Charging documents also revealed that Hernandez quoted Bible verses to them from Revelations. "Each of the verses that were quoted had passages in them that spoke about women who did not follow God’s word, so God stuck them down."

Hernandez told detectives he wasn't crazy because a crazy person wouldn't tell the truth. Police found a large butcher knife in the home's sink and bloody clothing at the home. The charging documents state the 3-year-old was watching when Hernandez beheaded her mother. He is being held on a $1 million bond and will appear in Skagit County Superior Court September 6.

Teen from New Mexico compound reveals startling details about what he was being trained to do

A teenage boy who was living at the New Mexico compound where five Islamic radicals are accused of abusing a dozen children revealed in court last week what the adults were training the older children to do outside the compound.

What are the details?

A 13-year-old boy who authorities initially took into custody when they raided the compound last month admitted in court his mother’s boyfriend was training him to carry out “jihad,” according to Reuters.

The boy — whose mother, Jany Leveille, investigators believe to be the group’s leader — told investigators Siraj Ibn Wahhaj trained him and his brother for “jihad” with the hopes of later assembling an “army,” an FBI agent said in court documents.

An affidavit filed in federal district court in New Mexico claims Ibn Wahhaj trained the boys in “firearms and military techniques, including rapid reloads and hand-to-hand combat, and told them jihad meant killing non-believers on behalf of Allah,” Reuters reported.

Unfortunately, it gets worse.

The boy told investigators he witnessed his mother and Ibn Wahhaj perform “exorcism” rituals on the 3-year-old boy later found dead when authorities raided the remote outpost in northern New Mexico.

In one instance, the adults choked the young boy, stopping his heart. The teenager told authorities his mother threatened him to guarantee his silence.

Anything else?

After a New Mexico judge dropped child abuse charges against the five adults living at the compound, the FBI re-arrested all five on weapons and conspiracy charges.

Hillary Clinton is hiring a batch of unpaid interns for the fall to work in her New York City office, according to documents obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Applications are currently being accepted on a rolling basis and will “run from September to mid-December.” The internship requires “a minimum of three days per week,” and undergrads “of all majors are encouraged to apply.”

While the amount of hours per day aren’t specified, the “internship is unpaid.”

“Interns will provide support to our staff, assisting our work on a wide range of projects. Work will include but will not be limited to: compiling press clips, monitoring social media, conducting research, drafting correspondence, and assisting with office management,” the job posting states.

Clinton’s office is looking for applicants who have “a high level of professionalism and discretion,” “strong research and writing skills,” “the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team,” “strong interpersonal communication skills,” “a diligent work ethic and a sense of conscientiousness,” as well as “enthusiasm, dedication, and a positive attitude.”

During the 2016 presidential campaign, Clinton was criticized for asking the Federal Election Commission to allow some campaign workers to accept college credit and a modest stipend for compensation.

From 2001 to 2016, both Hillary and Bill Clinton made over a combined $240 million from writing books, giving speeches and consulting work.

A request for comment to Clinton’s office was not returned.

Putin to Discuss Possible Idlib Provocation During Tehran Summit - Reports

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russian President Vladimir Putin may discuss provocations using chemical weapons in Syria at the Russia-Turkey-Iran summit in Tehran on Friday, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said in an interview.

"This issue, all aspects of the Syrian settlement and aggravating points will be discussed," Ushakov told the Izvestiya newspaper asked whether the issue of provocations with chemical weapons would be on the summit's agenda.

Putin will also hold separate meetings with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani.

On Friday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Putin and Erdogan would hold a bilateral meeting in the sidelines of the Russia-Turkey-Iran summit on Syria in Tehran.

Speculation about the possibility of a chemical attack in Syria has grown in recent weeks after Russian officials warned of a plot to launch such an assault in order to provoke western retaliation against the Syrian government.

On August 25, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said that terrorists of the Tahrir al-Sham group (affiliated with the Jabhat Nusra terror organization, banned in Russia) were preparing a provocation in Syria's western Idlib province to accuse Syrian government forces of using chemical weapons against civilians.

Chinese Billionaire Liu of JD.com Arrested in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS—Chinese billionaire Liu Qiangdong, also known as Richard Liu, the founder of the Beijing-based e-commerce site JD.com, was arrested in Minneapolis on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct, jail records show.

Liu, 45, was arrested late night of Aug. 31 and released on the afternoon of Sep. 1 pending possible criminal charges, Hennepin County Jail records show. The jail records don’t provide details of the alleged incident.

Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder said on Sep. 2 that he couldn’t provide any details because the investigation is considered active. He declined to say where in Minneapolis Liu was arrested or what Liu was accused of doing.

Minnesota law defines five degrees of criminal sexual misconduct, ranging from a gross misdemeanor to felonies, covering a broad array of conduct ranging from nonconsensual touching to violent assaults with injuries. The jail records for Liu don’t indicate a degree.

JD.com, the main rival to Alibaba Group, said in a statement posted Sep. 1 on the Chinese social media site Weibo that Liu was falsely accused while in the U.S. on a business trip, but that police investigators found no misconduct and that he would continue his journey as planned.

“We will take the necessary legal action against false reporting or rumors,” the company said.

Liu recently tried to distance himself from a sexual assault allegations against a guest at a 2015 party at Liu’s penthouse in Australia. Liu was not charged or accused of wrongdoing, but Australian media reported he tried unsuccessfully to get a court to prevent the release of his name in that case. The guest was convicted.

In June, Google said it would invest $550 million in JD.com. The investment reflected an effort by the U.S. tech company to expand its reach into Asian e-commerce.

JD.com is China’s second-largest e-commerce company after Alibaba. Among its other investors is Chinese internet gaming and social media giant Tencent Holdings, the developer of the WeChat messenger app and a major rival of Alibaba, and U.S. retailer Walmart Inc.
