President Trump Abruptly Cancels Labor Day Road Trip — Gets Out of SUV and Returns to White House for the Day

President Donald Trump was all set to leave the White House Monday morning for a likely round of golf at his Northern Virginia club when the trip was abruptly canceled, with the White House shortly thereafter calling a “lid” indicating Trump would remain at the White House the rest of the day.

(UPDATES at end of article.)

Pool reporter CNN’s Betsy Klein reported Trump had climbed into an SUV wearing a red polo shirt and white MAGA cap and then a few minutes later got out and walked back into the White House. Reporters in a van that was part of the presidential motorcade were then disembarked.

Klein posted a couple images of Trump leaving and then getting back out.

Klein’s fellow White House reporter ABC’s Meredith McGraw tweeted out Klein’s report:

“Weird, per pooler @betsy_klein: “The President emerged from the White House and boarded the motorcade at 10:39 am. He is wearing a bright red polo and a white Make America Great Again hat. He got out of the SUV and appeared to walk back inside the residence at 10:42 am.”

McGraw continued with more:

“The pool has now been told to unload and were not given an explanation yet for why the President got into the motorcade to leave the White House then went back inside…”

“Strange: Travel photo lid has been called, meaning President Trump will NOT be leaving the White House. The President got into the motorcade wearing golf cleats then turned back around to go inside the White House. The pool was told to unload from the vans without explanation.”

Public Pool posted pool reports by Rolling Stone’s Matt Laslo:

Pool report 1 – holding

Sticky holiday morning at 1600 with humidity hovering around 85%. No word on where were off to or whether POTUS intends to heed his own am Twitter command to Celebrate Labor Day! But theres a Virginia State Police squad car in the caravan, and most Secret Service agents are donning khakis and polos.

POTUS came out at 10:40 and chatted briefly outside his car rocking a red polo shirt, dark pants and a white #MAGA hat. Then he went back inside the residence at 10:42. Pool is holding in vans.

Pool report 2 – unloaded – not rolling

No details on whats up, but POTUS is back in residence, pool now unloaded from vans and the traveling Secret Service detail is unloading their gear.

Enjoy your day, one smiling female Secret Service agent told the pool as we strolled past.

No details from the WH on the plan for the rest of the holiday on this swampy, 85 degree morning.

Were back in the Brady Room awaiting details.

Pool report 3 – travel photo lid

At 10:58 we had a travel photo lid called.

Guess its too hot to play golf and other guesses as to what happened are emanating from the Brady Room.

And with that, were off to bbqs – happy Labor Day all!”

In 2011, President Barack Obama abruptly cut short a golf outing and returned to the White House so quickly he did not change out of his golf cleats. Later it was learned he had returned to monitor the raid in Pakistan that killed Osama bin Laden.

UPDATES: Since returning to the White House, President Trump tweeted criticism of AFL-CIO leader Richard Trumka.

Andrew Gillum ‘deeply appreciative’ of billionaires Soros, Steyer in race for Florida governor

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum on Sunday thanked billionaires George Soros and Tom Steyer for helping him score his upset win in last week’s Florida Democratic gubernatorial primary.

“I’ll tell you, I’m obviously deeply appreciative of Mr. Soros, as well as Mr. Steyer, both men whom I’ve known for some time,” Mr. Gillum said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

The Democratic megadonors and their associated groups directed millions to the campaign of Mr. Gillum, who edged out former Rep. Gwen Graham in the crowded Democratic primary. He faces Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis in the November election.

At the same time, Mr. Gillum insisted that his gubernatorial campaign was driven by small donations from “everyday folks.”. – READ MORE

Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum (D) said Sunday that he would increase taxes on corporations in the state to help fund his plan to provide Medicare for all.

Gillum was pressed on CNN’s “State of the Union” about his pledge to provide medical care for everyone in his state, including how he would pay for it.

“I don’t buy that,” Gillum said when asked if higher taxes are a prerequisite of Medicare for all. “I will absolutely not raise taxes on everyday working Floridians.”

The Democrat said he would look to increase taxes on corporations instead, arguing that only 3 percent of companies in the state pay a corporate tax rate

This was not something you see at funerals.

This was a pep rally against Trump.

Meghan McCain attacked Trump – repeatedly.

Barack Obama attacked Trump.

Even George W. Bush, who never ever said an unkind word about Obama while he was in the White House, took a dig at Trump.

Americans were outraged at this unpatriotic display.

On Sunday CNN senior political analyst Ronald Brownstein admitted the McCain funeral was a political call to arms.

Ronald Brownstein: I was struck by the tone of today’s funeral. It was a less a eulogy than it was a call to arms.

They even admit it openly.

Congress waits, waits, waits for Sally Yates documents

Obama appointee Sally Yates was acting attorney general under President Trump for just 10 days — from January 20, 2017 until January 30, 2017 — but by any measure they were consequential days. Even now, two issues from Yates’ brief tenure are still of interest to congressional investigators. One was the series of events that led Yates, in charge of the Justice Department, to reject the president’s executive order temporarily suspending the admittance into the United States of people from some Muslim nations. The second is Yate’s role in the FBI’s questioning, apparently on dubious premises, the president’s national security adviser, Michael Flynn, four days into the new administration — questioning that ultimately led to Flynn’s guilty plea in the Trump-Russia investigation.

Both are matters of great public significance and interest — and on both, the Justice Department is refusing to allow the Senate Judiciary Committee access to documents from Yates’ time in office.

On Feb. 23, 2017, Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Charles Grassley wrote to Attorney General Jeff Sessions asking for “all emails to, from, copying, or blind-copying Ms. Yates from Jan. 20, 2017, through Jan. 31, 2017.” Grassley also asked for all of Yates’ other correspondence from that period, plus records of her calls and meetings.

The reason Grassley cited — his committee has direct oversight authority over the Justice Department — was that Yates’ order to the Justice Department not to defend the president’s executive order cost the administration precious time as it prepared to fight the inevitable legal challenges. The Department did not have its facts together when a federal judge in Washington State demanded them, setting the stage for the judge to issue a temporary restraining order.

But now, the Justice Department refuses to hand over any of Yates’ emails to the Senate committee with direct oversight authority. If the Department were serious about complying, it might ask for some limits on what has to be produced, and it’s likely the Senate would have gone along, or at least negotiated about what should be turned over. But the Department just gave a flat no.

Former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates on Monday said President Trump has taken his “assault on the rule of law to a new level” by demanding the Justice Department (DOJ) look into alleged surveillance abuses of his 2016 presidential campaign.

Yates, whom Trump fired last year after she refused to defend his travel ban targeting several Muslim-majority countries, warned that he crossed a new line by asking the department on Twitter over the weekend to investigate whether the FBI surveilled his campaign for “inappropriate purposes.”

“I think what we’re seeing here is the president has taken his all-out assault of the rule of law to a new level and this time he is ordering up an investigation of the investigators who are examining his own campaign. You know, that’s really shocking,” Yates said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“I know it was just a tweet but he did say something to the effect of, if I recall correctly, ‘I hereby order.’ And we saw the Justice Department respond to that,” Yates added. “I think [Deputy Attorney General] Rod Rosenstein is trying to strike a balance here between defusing the situation and also protecting the rule of law and the institutional integrity of the department.” – READ MORE

WSJ: Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Personally Decides Who Gets Blacklisted

The Wall Street Journal published an article recently outlining the efforts Twitter has made to crack down on “bad actors” on its platform, including the personal involvement of CEO Jack Dorsey in deciding who gets blacklisted.

An article published in the Wall Street Journal titled “Inside Twitter’s Long, Slow Struggle to Police Bad Actors,” outlines how Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey personally stepped in to make decisions on the banning of high-profile accounts, regularly frustrating Twitter employees. The article states that Twitter primarily relies on reports from users to police their platform and decisions on whether to ban accounts are then made by reviewing a consistent set of policies relating to the platform’s rules.

It is also expected that the House Commerce Committee will question Dorsey on the silencing of conservative voices on Twitter. The chairman of the committee, Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), stated that the hearing “is about pulling back the curtain on Twitter’s algorithms, how the company makes decisions about content, and how those decisions impact Americans.”

ACS Worker Charged with Child Assault is Convicted Murderer; Hired for Political Correctness

An Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) worker arrested last month for assaulting a 6-year-old boy is a convicted murderer who spent almost two decades in prison.

55-year-old Jacques Edwards is facing assault charges for horrifically shoving a 6-year-old boy head-first into a filing cabinet at the foster care center run by ACS - the Nicolas Scoppetta Children’s Center on First Avenue in Kips Bay. The incident took place on August 2. Edwards was immediately suspended for a month without pay.

Edwards was previously accused of attacking a teenager under his care. He was said to have also often bragged about his past criminal record to co-workers at the ACS.

Edwards was only 18 in 1981 when he was convicted of murder in Brooklyn. He was sentenced to 15 years to life behind bars and released from prison in 2010.

The incident with the teen happened in 2014, within a year after Edwards was hired. He was then accused of throttling a 15-year-old boy at the Crossroads Juvenile Center in Brooklyn where he was first posted.

Sources said that Edwards and the teen were arguing when the ex-con wrapped his hands around the teen's throat. A source revealed: “He was choking the child so badly that a sergeant had to pull him off the kid. They put him on leave and then they placed him in a different facility. Everyone knew there was something wrong with him."

City officials said Edwards disclosed his murder conviction to ACS when he applied for the job and the Department of Citywide, Administrative Services, however, cleared him for employment based on New York Correction Law which prohibits unfair discrimination against people with criminal records. City officials also said that it also helped Edwards’ case that “the murder conviction was more than a decade old” so he was given a chance at employment.

Despite boasting of a criminal past to his co-workers, Edwards managed to keep his job because at 6’3” feet and 225-pound because sources said, “’he filled a desperate hole in ACS as he happened to be a male employee who could keep children in line." It was his being "intimidating” that made him perfect for the job - or so the organization thought.

Officials now realize their lapse in judgment as far as Edwards is concerned. ACS Commissioner David Hansell said: "We believe in second chances, and it is not city policy that a criminal conviction of any kind is a permanent bar to city employment. But when it comes to working with children, we have to have stricter scrutiny, we have to have higher standards. And we do."

ACS is poised to fire Edwards this week. Edwards is out on $15,000 bail in the new assault case.

CNN Boosts Left-Wing Campaign to Censor Breitbart; Approves ‘Blacklisting’

CNN swept aside journalistic ethics on Sunday by endorsing a blacklisting campaign with a glowing interview of Matt Rivitz, the founder of Sleeping Giants, a failed effort to censor Breitbart News by harassing and intimidating companies whose advertisements may (or may not) have appeared on the website.

The interview took place on Reliable Sources, a Sunday morning show that once focused on analyzing the media, but which in recent years has been turned into the editorial mouthpiece of CNN president Jeff Zucker, voiced through host Brian Stelter.

Israel Hints It May Target Alleged Iranian Ballistic Missiles Deployed in Iraq

Tehran earlier rejected media reports that it was delivering short-range ballistic missiles and associated technology to Shiite militias in Iraq, calling the claims "false and ridiculous."

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has said that Israel would not limit itself to Syria if it felt the need to deal with "Iranian threats" in the region.

"We are certainly monitoring everything that is happening in Syria, and regarding Iranian threats, we are not limiting ourselves just to Syrian territory. This also needs to be clear," Lieberman said, speaking at a news conference in Jerusalem on Monday, according to Reuters.

Asked directly whether Israel might target Iraq, Lieberman responded: "I'm saying that we will handle any Iranian threat, no matter where it comes from…Israel's freedom is total. We retain this freedom of action," the minister said.

On Sunday, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said it was "astonished" over earlier media reports about Iran's alleged movement of missiles to Iraq, stressing that the claims were "without evidence."

Baghdad's statement came on the heels of a sharp rebuke over the rumors by Tehran, with the Iranian Foreign Ministry calling the information "unacceptable and false" and saying it was aimed at "perpetuating political threats against Iran."

Iran, which has a strong domestic missile industry and is thought to possess over 1,000 short and medium-range missiles in its arsenal, is prohibited from transferring these weapons to third countries under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, also known as the Iran nuclear deal. Tensions between Israel and its US ally on one side and Iran on the other escalated earlier this year after Washington pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal and re-imposed economic sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Late last month, Reuters reported, citing anonymous Iranian sources as well as unnamed Iraqi and Western intelligence officials, that Tehran has allegedly supplied "a couple dozen" short-range ballistic missiles and the means for their production to Iraq over the past several months as a deterrent against possible foreign aggression.
