Leahy is trying to "Gotcha!" Kavanaugh into the appearance of perjuring himself with this line of questioning.

Kavanaugh clearly sees the trap and is strictly addressing only what Leahy is presenting as he presents them, then artfully qualifying the answers he DOES give with no expansion on the topic beyond its unremarkable nature.
