Israel Promises to Keep Hitting Syria, Will Consider Any International Deals 'Irrelevant'

Speaking on Thursday during a visit to the border with Lebanon, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman declared that Israel will not be bound by any international deals reached on post-war Syria, and will not honor any such agreements.

Lieberman says Israel considers all agreements and understandings reached to be irrelevant, and that policy will strictly be based on Israel’s own military priorities. Clearly this comment centers on Israel’s repeated attacks on Syria throughout the war.

Israeli officials have throughout the war said they are opposed to Assad remaining in power, viewing that as tantamount to an Iranian victory. They’ve also seen fit to attack Syrian military sites on the slightest pretext, and sometimes for no apparent reason at all.

With Assad’s survival virtually certain at this point, Lieberman is likely setting the stage for Israel to continue to attack Syrian military sites intermittently in the post-war era.

Pompeo agrees with Russia that terrorists exist in Idlib

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters on Tuesday that Washington supposedly shares Moscow’s concerns over the presence of terrorists in Syria’s jihadist-held Idlib province and is ready to work on solving this issue.

Pompeo did acknowledge that Russia’s statement that terrorists are based in Idlib is true.

“That is a true statement. We share their concern about terrorism emanating from northern, northwest Syria. We absolutely agree with them [Russia] there are terrorists in those locations and they need to be taken care of such that they don’t export terror around the world,” he said.

“We’re happy to work on the terrorism issue in this place,” Pompeo stressed.

Pompeo noted that he has seen “the reports of the Russian bombing and the Syrian bombing,” which was allegedly carried out in Idlib. He discussed the situation around Idlib with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu. “We are hoping that this can be resolved diplomatically.”

“It is not the way to do that to put the lives of all these innocent civilians at risk and create a humanitarian crisis,” he noted. “We’re always concerned they may use chemical weapons in the process of trying to obtain their military objective.”

The Russian defense ministry earlier warned about a provocation with the hoax use of chemical weapons against civilians that was being staged by militants in the Idlib Governorate under control of the British special services. This provocation is geared to be yet another pretext for the United States, the United Kingdom and France to carry out an airstrike on government and economic facilities in Syria, TASS reported.

On August 30, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said after talks with Lavrov that Syria would push ahead with its efforts for retaking Idlib regardless of whether Washington and its allies might deliver strikes against it under the pretext Damascus had used chemical weapons, the TASS report continued.

Report: Nike Chose Kaepernick Because Their Customer Base Is ‘Significantly Urban’

According to a new report, Nike fully understood the beehive it would stir by making Colin Kaepernick the face of its “Just Do It” campaign, but decided to do it anyway because the company’s fan base is “significantly urban.”

According to TMZ the move to put national anthem protester Colin Kaepernick on its 30th anniversary “Just Do It” ad campaign was a “shrewd business move,” which was also “part cultural.”

A source inside Nike told TMZ that the company fully understood millions of Americans would be upset with the choice of putting Kaepernick on the ad. However, the company reckoned that since most of its customer base is black, it would be a financial benefit in the long run.

The move to sign Kaepernick to the ad was also a move away from the NFL as a corporate entity and toward individual athletes who are increasingly turning into social justice warriors.

The signal Nike reportedly hopes to send to young, up-and-coming athletes is that Nike is on their side, not the side of the corporations they may eventually work for.

“Our sources say Nike has made a calculated decision to become ‘a partner in social change,'” TMZ reported.

Just ahead of the debut of the Kaepernick ad, a recent poll noted a wide gulf between blacks and whites over the now ubiquitous protests during the national anthem at NFL games.

The recent poll by NBC found that far more blacks approved of the anthem protests than whites: 70 percent of black respondents say protesting is the right thing to do, while 28 percent say no. Meanwhile, 58 percent of whites say the protests are not appropriate, while 38 percent say they are.

With numbers like this, it would be unsurprising that an “urban” customer base could find Colin Kaepernick to be an appealing spokesman.
