You all understand that the impromptu recieving of an award from the nation's Sheriffs is public positioning of GEOTUS for when mass arrests start.
Why do I say this? I'm a retired executive LEfag…both LE and GEOTUS already know that we have a great relationship. Bigly. We don't need the public pomp and ceremony. Those would be done privately and reported in trade circles.
This was for public consumption. Notice the size of the press corps and the timing at the beginning of all the evening news cycles.
The public needs a little reminding that GEOTUS and LE are besties; and somebody has to serve those 50+K indictments. The Sheriff of the county is the office responsible for process service. The US Marshalls pick up Federal fugitives, but if you have tens of thousands, you absolutely need your sheriffs to do the boots on the ground work at least in the early going.
If things gets 'confusing', then again, they are your order maintenance front line.
Together with the recent E.O. on preparedness, shrouded conveniently behind the peak of hurricane season, my professional and personal opinion is that these are the preparations for major moves with significant public impact.
This fall should be much more interdasting in real life than on the little screen.
This isn't a boom, but it looks like the cannon has been loaded and is just waiting for the order to fire.
