‘Curating our reality’: Investigative journalist Abby Martin takes aim at US media hegemony to RT

A journalist whose documentary series was shut-down by financial difficulties due to US sanctions on Venezuela, has told RT that the US along with tech giants “are curating our reality” when it comes to independent media.

Abby Martin, who until last month hosted The Empire Files on Latin American TV network teleSUR, told Mike Papantonio’s America Lawyer program that recent Trump administration sanctions had “completely ceased TeleSur’s ability to function.”

“The latest round of sanctions,” argued Martin, has resulted in all contract journalists at the company “unable to receive funds all around the world,” while the ability to send and receive funds through Caracas “have also been completely halted.”

“There’s a reason why people like you, people like me work for outlets like RT, like TeleSur,” Martin told Papantonio.

“There’s very little places, virtually no places obviously in the corporate media apparatus that you can tell the truth to challenge corporate tyranny and this US imperialist narrative of constant regime change all around the world.”

Accusing tech giants like Facebook and Google of “working hand in glove” with the US government and conservative think tanks, Martin said the attack on alternative media outlets that challenge the “corporate media hegemony” of the US was an attempt at “literally curating our reality and trying to paint anything that challenges this establishment narrative as conspiracy theories, as disinformation, as Russian trolls.”

“It’s a very dangerous and slippery slope that we’re on and I just think it’s time that we take a step back and actually fund the journalists that we want to see and want to support,” she concluded.

Since taking office, the Trump administration ramped up sanctions against Venezuela, imposing travel restrictions in September 2017. Since Venezuela’s elections in May, Washington has expanded to bar US firms or citizens from buying debt or accounts receivable from the Venezuelan government, including its state oil firm.

In July, it added President Maduro to the growing list of high-ranking Venezuelan officials targeted by sanctions which freeze any of Maduro’s assets under US jurisdiction.

Hyperinflation as a result of the economic sanctions has hit the country’s poor the hardest. Shortages have seen prices of everyday items skyrocket, with bundles of notes needed to buy the most basic of necessities

Polk Sheriff: Illegal Alien Arrested for Rape of 8-Year-Old Girl in Florida

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd announced the arrest of an illegal alien in Florida in connection with the rape of an innocent 8-year-old girl, once again reaffirming the President's warnings about the dangers of violent criminal illegal aliens posed towards Americans.

29-year-old Wilibaldo Salinas Garcia, an illegal alien originating from Mexico is known to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, where he has previously used the alias Lorenzo Siriano, along with a false Social Security Number and address.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, they were contacted by the mother of an 8-year-old girl, after the young child told her on August 24th that Garcia had forced his way into her bedroom while she was sleeping and had penetrated her as part of a horrific sexual battery of the child.

The young girl said that not only did Garcia then force her to touch his genitals, but had done something similar the previous year.

Angry, the mother then confronted the pedophile, and Garcia, who thought if he apologized everything would be okay, pleaded with the woman to forgive him for what he had done to an innocent child.

Pure evil.

During the argument, Garcia promised “he would tell the girl he was sorry for what he had done,” the girl’s mother said.

Detectives said that after the woman contacted them, that she would also provide text messages and audio recordings of conversations with Garcia as evidence, where he had admitted what he had done.

While there is no way to restore the innocence of that innocent child, this further underscores the dangerous threat of both pedophilia and that posed by illegal aliens to the United States of America's children.

Polk County Sheriff's Detectives then put a warrant out for the arrest of Garcia, and he was quickly arrested and charged with the Sexual Battery On a Person Less Than 12 Years Of Age, which is a Capital Felony in the State of Florida.

"Sorry won't cut it for this guy; he's only sorry that he was caught," said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. "He tried to prevent getting caught by telling the girl that if she told her mother, her mother would hit her."

Garcia has previous charges inside the United States, including the prior criminal history which consists of three misdemeanor charges for Resisting Arrest, Loitering, and Marijuana Possession.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office has since contacted the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, where they've made an effort to place a detainer on Garcia, so that if he were to pay a bond he will immediately be given to the custody of ICE, unable to roam free.

Christian college dumps Nike: ‘If Nike is ashamed of America, we are ashamed of them’

A Christian college in Point Lookout, Missouri, has severed ties with Nike for its school equipment after Nike revealed its new campaign ad featuring former NFL player Colin Kaepernick as its face.

On Monday, Nike rolled out its newest “Just Do It” campaign featuring Kaepernick.

Kaepernick shared the ad to his Twitter page on Monday, which showed a black and white image of his face with the caption, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”

In response to the newly unveiled campaign, many Nike fans protested the company by destroying their Nike-branded products — some by scissors, and some by fire.

On Wednesday, Nike rolled out a two-minute ad featuring various acts of athletic heroism with Kaepernick as the video’s narrator.

The video closed with Kaepernick using the new campaign slogan, “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything.”

What’s happening now?

Missouri’s College of the Ozarks, which is a private liberal arts college, plans to remove all uniforms that contain Nike’s logo from its school supply.

The school competes in sports at the NAIA level.

In a statement, the college’s president, Jerry C. Davis said, “In their new ad campaign, we believe Nike executives are promoting an attitude of division and disrespect toward America. If Nike is ashamed of America, we are ashamed of them. We also believe that those who know what sacrifice is all about are more likely to be wearing a military uniform than an athletic uniform.”

In 2017, the College of the Ozarks issued a mandate noting that their sports teams would walk away from games in which the opposing team refused to honor the American flag or the national anthem with any decidedly negative behaviors such as kneeling, sitting, or turning their backs.

“It’s a shame sporting events are being used to communicate disrespect for this great country,” Davis said at the time. “It’s time for colleges and universities to be positive role models. We need more emphasis on character and unity and less emphasis on political correctness.”

TX-Sen: O’Rourke denies sending texts asking volunteers to transport illegal immigrants to polls

Some Texas voters received text messages appearing to come from Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s texting team and asking for volunteers to help transport illegal immigrants to the polls in November, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

O’Rourke’s campaign has denied responsibility for the text from “Patsy.” Spokesman Chris Evans told the American-Statesman that the message sent out on Wednesday came from an “imposter.”

“It was sent by an impostor,” Evans told the newspaper in a text message Wednesday evening. “But we’re continuing to look into what happened.”

The Democratic Senate candidate’s team sent a follow-up text to voters Wednesday night that alerted them to the fake message.

O’Rourke, who’s vying to unseat Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in November, has called for immigration reform laws that would ease regulations for immigrants.

The race between the two candidates has become increasingly tight, according to recent polls.

Legendary American Actor Burt Reynolds Dies at 82

Acclaimed American actor Burt Reynolds, who got his start starring in the 1950s Western television drama Gunsmoke, has passed away at 82 after suffering from a heart attack on Thursday.

According to the Daily Mail, the veteran actor was being filmed in an upcoming Quentin Tarantino-directed film called "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" when he died.

The mustachioed movie star was also a college football player at Florida State before he got into acting. He reportedly passed away with his family by his side.
