The mayor of Leggett, North Carolina, and his wife have been found dead in an apparent murder, officials and local media report. Only few details were immediately available.

Deputies from the Edgecombe County’s Sheriff’s Office responded to the couple’s home in Leggett on Thursday afternoon after one of them was reported missing. Two bodies were found at the home.

A town official confirmed that the deceased are Mayor Gary Skelton and his wife Jackie. Local news outlet WNCT-TV described their deaths as a murder, but details about how they died are not yet available.

“At this time, no one else is believed to be in danger. Suspects are in custody,” the Edgecombe County’s Sheriff’s Office said in a brief statement. It said more details would be released during on Friday.
