I can confirm there was a lot of conflicting stories all day long. The first reports mentioned three white snipers, then just three snipers, then it whittled down to two snipers. They kept the place clamped down for hours while they kept searching for that third guy.
I don't know why the badges are different, but search 'cia paramilitary sniper' and those images come up–both the targeted and untargeted versions.
