The First Urban Case of Ebola in the Congo Is a ‘Game Changer’

The current Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has thus far been confined to remote rural areas, but one case has now been confirmed in Mbandaka, a city of almost 1.2 million people. “We are moving to a new phase of the epidemic, and we are putting all the means in place to respond to it in a quick and effective way,” said Oly Ilunga, the DRC’s minister of health, on Wednesday evening.

The outbreak initially hit the northwestern town of Bikoro and a nearby village called Ikoko-Impenge that is 30 kilometers away. Both are small and hard to reach, especially in the current rainy season, when roads become pockmarked with gullies and potholes. Mbandaka’s larger population, and its location on the Congo River, provides new opportunities for the virus to spread. And, at around 150 kilometers from Bikoro, it significantly widens the area affected by the outbreak. “Confirmation of urban Ebola in DRC is a game changer,” Peter Salama, from the World Health Organization, tweeted. “The challenge just got much, much tougher.”

R v W dismissed the viability of the fetus issue. Today, it is the issue. Health of the mother is NOT the issue. This is just more smoke and mirrors. Abortion is, like leftism, a religion…

Schumer: Democratic Candidates Won't Invite Obama, Clinton "If They Don't Think It Will Help Them"

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said Democrats cannot just be the anti-Trump party in 2018 in an interview Wednesday night with CNN's Chris Cuomo. Schumer acknowledged in 2016, "there was too much emphasis on Trump" and "too many people lost that." He said Trump does enough to make the "anti-Trump argument himself."

"We can't just be anti-Trump," Schumer said of the party's message. "And people sort of know what Trump is, he makes the anti-Trump argument himself to the majority of Americans. We have to be for a lot of good positive things. And again, we have done some of those and we're going to do more of them so that the middle-class people, who are the Democratic Party know, not only care about them, and my prediction – we will work with Republicans and if we get the majority, it’s going to start happening."

I Don’t Know This Guy

Democrats in red states are panicking about Obama showing up to campaign for them.

Mark Udall hardly even tried to fake it. In January, after President Obama’s State of the Union address, CNN’s Dana Bash asked the first-term Colorado senator if he wanted the president to campaign in his state. Udall had won his 2008 race by 10 points, and Obama had carried the state twice, which made it all the more perplexing when the senator replied with a nonsensical word salad.

“We're gonna be running a strong campaign based on Colorado's interest, Colorado's future,” said Udall. “My job, I think, is to protect Colorado's way of life. We've got a wonderful way of life.” Meaning? “We'll see what the president's schedule is. We'll see what my schedule is.”
