I used to use Turnitin.com in HS. From my understanding, based on Turnitin.com saying it was a 100% match would mean

A. yes a USC student wrote it originally or

B. no a USC student did not write it, but someone able to access that students account could submit it to a professor and get it in the system, therefore making it appear like a student wrote it.

Either way it's pretty telling, if I'm on the right path. I could be way off base though.

Also, I forgot to mention, Turnitin.com also calculates quotes as matches to other work as well.

The point was that when you turned something in, you wanted it to be 0% matched so that the teacher knew you did your own work.

But in reality, for research papers, it could NEVER be 0% because you needed citations and sources. So teachers would say that it couldn't be more than a certain percentage based on how many quotes/citations they were requiring in the assignment turned in through the website.

I believe this makes a difference. Sorry for the ramble.
