An interesting position, I haven't seen that one before. I guess the idea is d5, ed; Nc3, Be6(for example); Ng3 with light square control, threat to play f5 and Re1, etc.
d5 prevents black playing d5 which would have consolidated his structure.
In the Capa - Marshall game we've looked at long ago, d5 was Black's move initiating Marshall's gambit, then at the end d5 was controlled by White clarifying that he was winning. Black started off controlling d5 as a strong point; when White controlled it he defeated Black. I don't recall that this point was made before.
