See also the writings of Peter Graneau, professor emeritus from MIT, when he was in or near retirement (when he could sort of 'open up a little' regarding controversial issues in physics and electronics that he didn't feel like discussing during his main working years).
Lightning bolts release lots of zero point energy. As do hurricanes. However thsi energy is quickly dissipated.
If you could create a device that creates controlled lightning (e.g. ball lightning) or a 'hurrcane' type storm in a plasma environment… in a limited space… then you are looking at a highly efficient "breakthrough" energy device that produces heat or electricity at perhaps 5% of the current price. It's not 'free energy' as some people ignorantly call it, but it is cheap, pollutionless energy, and a threat to the modern petroleum/solar/wind/nuclear system as well as the grid system.
This isn't speculation. Just look at what Andrea Rossi, Randall Mills (Brilliant Light Power), Brillouin, Nanospire, and Paramahamsa Tewari are doing… it's all in this vein and it's been demonstrated, in some cases patented.
