Anime went to war with Hollywood with "Neon Genesis: Evangelion." Gainax changed anime forever in that single stroke, and more recent moves have come in the form of Psycho-Pass of Fate-Zero.

The rebound seen among teens and even within parts of the millenial generation is because they have latched onto Anime as opposed to domestic hollywood.

The scale of this war and its nature is not to be underestimated. Thundercats: GO vs hell - let's take an ecchi series like Date A Live. Or even Neptunia. Hell, Sword Art Online is generally (and rightfully) panned, but is still head and shoulders above anything produced in the West within the past ten years.

Compare the messages of these shows to the sitcoms beating into their heads that the adults are all backward/stupid, that everyone is a tranny on the inside, that the world is doomed because of humans having children, etc.

Then ask yourself why it is that the kids graduating highschool today have seen a recovery of females who wish to be mothers and males who want to hold real jobs.

Sure, it deals with stuff very bluntly and matter-of-factly. There are hentai where a girl is drugged and abused into despair and slavery. It is shown as a horrible and sick thing - as a battle between what one wants as an outcome and what one wants as a physical stimulus.

You will not find a discussion of "what happens when you drug someone and force them to orgasm while telling them that they want it?" In politically correct or decent company.

Dare I suggest that such plots are as much an expose on 'brainwashing' techniques as they are anything else.

Among many reasons, that is why this board. You can't be blunt or real in places where the facade of civility can be used as a cudgel to suppress discussion.
