I found a book from 1956 called "Totalitariian Dictatorship and autocracy" by Zbigniew K. Brzezinski and Carl J. Friedrich / They claim each chapter was written by both men and it's Harvard published.
Brzezinsky was working at Columbia at the time in charge of "Research Institute on Communist Affairs"
It describes in detail totalitarian regimes. And I wonder, as I did when I re-thought about "1984" under the present context of my knowledge, that it's a prescription and not a proscription.
Wouldn't a perfect position for a Communist spy who is actually in favor of dictatorship [by the alleged "Proletariat?"] to have such an academic position?
He equates the fascist and communist dictatorships as the same.So equally he could be a fascist.
pg 111
"The nearly complete control of all means of mass communication gives the totalitarian dictatorship the very great advantage of being able to shift its general point of view rather radically over short periods of time"
Dig on the co-author is interesting. Associated with the von Bulow family

Brother Otto was a Nazi.
Carl wanted to censor Pete Seeger "songs for Peace"
" highly suspicious of grass-roots popular movements."
Very powerful man. Needs more looking over. Brzezinski's mentor
