When the United States is described as a democracy, I am reminded of Edmund J. Randolph who was:
7th Governor of Virginia, 1786-1788
1st Attorney General of the United States 1789-1794
2nd Secretary of State of the United States 1794-1795
Edmund J Randolph was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia from May 25 to September 17, 1789.
Democracy was debated as a form of government and Mr. Randolph had this to say:
"The general object was to produce a cure for the evils under which the United States labored; that in tracing these evils to their origins, every man had found it in the turbulence and follies of democracy"
Constitution of the United States of America:
Article IV, Section 4:
"The United States shall guarantee to every State in the Union a Republican Form of Government…"
LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC!!!
