There is also the CHILL study which is an initiative to increase the ferritin levels in young - teen- blood donors. This is the equivalent of fortifying their blood to be iron rich. It is not exclusive to young women, typically iron deficient. They want YOUNG blood high in iron like enriched bread. The American Red Cross silently changed their standards in January 2018 and other blood centers may have too, requiring higher iron levels for teen donated blood.
