I always wonder about couples who don't "match".
All four of my grandparents were plain-looking people, but they were good folks, worked hard, and loved their families.
Both couples had seen harder times than I've ever seen (during the Depression)
They survived because there was no choice.
There is a story about one of my grandfathers, leaning his head against the kitchen wall and weeping because he was afraid there wouldn't be enough food for his children.
Physical attractiveness is a secondary thing.
Enduring love and loyalty are beautiful and primary.
"We are told that people stay in love because of chemistry, or because they remain intrigued with each other, because of many kindnesses, because of luck… but part of it has got to be forgiveness and gratefulness. The understanding that you're no bargain, but you love and are loved. Anyway."
