Some states are more home school friendly than others. Texas wins in this department. We began home-shooling my son when he was in the fourth grade and he was just accepted into his first choice university with large merit based scholarships, so it can be done. There are SO MANY resources for home school families and you can't imagine the benefits. Many home-school kids take college classes during high school years (in some states for free for up to 60 hours) and get both high school credit and college credit. They skip the AP racket. I think many homes-chooling parents (not all, scary-face) are like members of this board: intelligent, open-minded, resourceful and not afraid to do what is right.TRUST YOURSELF.

That's the beauty of it. FREEDOM. You get to decide how provide an education to your child based on what THEY need. Each child is different!! You can educate a kid based on what makes THEIR heart sing. You can do it yourself, you can completely outsource it (a la cart or with something like K-12), you can attend internet classes, you can attend local classes. We used a hybrid approach and chose whatever method was best for what we were trying to accomplish.

I think the quickest way to get started is to find a knowledgeable person with experience and learn all you can from them. In a year or two you will be an expert yourself about home-schooling (insert your kind of kid here)
