I served three years aboard a naval cruiser out of Mayport, FL. We spent a lot of time in the Sargasso Sea. One day in particular was spectacularly eerie. There was not a breath of wind and the sea was like glass. The only ripples seen were from the ship's wake, the numerous porpoises which enjoyed matching our speed and crossing directly in front of the ship, and the literally thousands of flying fish which would pop out of the water and glide seemingly forever just in front of our bow.
