MATTATHIAS SCHWARTZ began contributing to the magazine in 2011. "A Massacre in Jamaica," his investigation into the extradition of Christopher Coke, won the 2011 Livingston Award for international reporting. He has reported for the magazine from the Mosquito Coast, Tripoli, and Zuccotti Park. Between 2002 and 2005, he edited and published the twenty-one-issue run of the Philadelphia Independent, a broadsheet newspaper.
