After Taxpayer-Funded Funeral, John McCain’s Family — Worth Over $200 Million — Will Receive LAVISH & Expensive “Death Gratuity” from Taxpayers

Former Senator John McCain (R-AZ) has died, but his six-terms in the U.S. Senate is the “gift” that keeps giving for American taxpayers. Now, taxpayers will fund a $174,000 “death gratuity” to McCain’s family, which will keep with a longstanding tradition of years of the senator’s salary given to the deceased lawmaker’s next of kin.

As Roll Call reported, the next federal appropriations bill will include funding for this gratuity. While the practice is common, people are asking questions, since Cindy McCain’s net worth, thanks to her family’s business, is at least $200 million and possibly more. She also owns at least $2.7 million worth of shares in Anheuser-Busch.

After Cindy’s father died in 2000, she inherited the majority control and chairmanship of Hensley & Co., one of the largest Anheuser-Busch beer distributors in America.

In the meantime, every quarter, President Trump has donated his presidential salary to good causes and federal agencies. In addition, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump do not collect their potential six-figure salary for the White House.

Welcome to The Swamp.

"Unbelievable": Facebook Bans Ex-Democrat #WalkAway Founder Weeks Before March On Washington

Facebook has banned Brandon Straka, the former Democrat who founded the "Walk Away" campaign and its viral hashtag #WalkAway, after he linked to Infowars.com - which has been banned from the platform.

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-09-12/facebook-bans-ex-democrat-walkaway-founder-weeks-march-washington

It kind of took my breath away,” he said. “I said to him, ‘Listen, if you can’t sell to me, that’s fine, but, you know, person to person, I’d like to talk to you, because I don’t think you know what Walk Away is about. And he said, ‘Well, you know, I’m done. I’m not comfortable selling to you. You’re welcome to talk to someone else in the store but I’m not going to sell to you.’"

Seems like one of those "you know you're over the target when you're taking the most flack" moments.

MSNBC Panel Defends Phone Calls Threatening GOP Senator Over Kavanaugh Vote, Calls it ‘Passion of the People’

An MSNBC panel has defended the threatening and abusive phone calls to GOP Senator Susan Collins regarding Judge Brett Kavanaugh as “the passion of the people.”

The panel featured PBS NewsHour White House Correspondent and NBC News political contributor Yamiche Alcindor and Axios reporter Alexi McCammond.

The host referred to the threatening calls to Senator Collins as a “pressure campaign” and played some of the deeply disturbing phone calls she has received. The calls included men berating her about women’s rights while calling her a “bitch” and a “feckless woman.”

In response to the shocking messages, Alcindor defended them by saying it is simply “the passion of the people.” She asserted that while the language is “abhorrent” they are talking about “life and death issues,” so it’s fine.

Number of Illegal Migrant Families Apprehended at US-Mexico Border Rises

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - The number of immigrant families apprehended for illegal entry at the US-Mexico border increased by 38 percent in August compared to July, Department of Homeland Security Press Secretary Tyler Houlton said in a press release on Wednesday.

"While the overall numbers are consistent with an expected seasonal increase, the number of family units along the Southwest border increased 38 percent — 3,500 more than July and the highest August on record," Houlton said in the release.

Houlton explained that the substantial increase is an indicator that the migration flows are responding to gaps in the US legal framework.

The Department of Homeland Security is currently required to release families within 20 days of apprehension for illegal entry, Houlton said, adding that a vast majority of families that have been released fail to leave the United States or be deported.

Last week, the Trump administration proposed a regulation to end a legal agreement that prevents the US federal government from detaining immigrant children for more than 20 days.

Trump was forced to issue an order to halt family separations at the border after viral images of children locked in cages drew criticism domestically and internationally. In June he signed an executive order directing his administration to seek changes in the so-called Flores agreement in order to detain children longer.

As a result of the administration’s zero-tolerance policy for illegal immigration, about 2,600 children were separated from their parents this spring after being apprehended for illegally entering the United States.

Nikki Haley warns Russia and Iran of ‘dire consequences’ if they continue airstrikes in Syria

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has told the governments of Iran and Russia that there would be “dire consequences” if they did not stop bombing rebel-held positions in Syria.

What about the attacks by Iran and Russia in Syria?

As the war in Syria continues to drag on, the militaries of Iran and Russia have been launching attacks on rebel-held positions, in an attempt to end the conflict in a way that favors their ally, Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.

Both nations have strongly denied that Assad has possession of or has used chemical weapons in the past, despite a plethora of evidence. Assad has targeted civilian populations with sarin and chlorine gas. In addition to covering for Assad, Russia has targeted rebel territory with “barrel bombs, rockets and artillery,” according to Haley.

More than half a million people have died in the Syrian Civil War so far. According to a study conducted in March by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 85 percent of that number were civilians killed by the Assad regime.

What did Nikki Haley say?

“If Assad, Russia and Iran continue down the path they are on, the consequences will be dire,” Haley said during a meeting of the U.N. Security Council regarding the ongoing crisis in Idlib, Syria.

Haley called the “atrocities” perpetrated by the Assad regime “a permanent stain on history, and a black mark for this council which was blocked over and over by Russia from taking action to help.”

She added:

I also want to reiterate what I said last week to the Assad regime and anyone else contemplating the use of chemical weapons in Syria. The United States followed through when we said that we would respond to the use of chemical weapons. We stand by this warning.

When asked by reporters on Tuesday, Secretary of Defense James Mattis refused to say whether or not the U.S. would take any sort of military action against Syria, or what exactly these dire consequences might look like.

GOP congressman touts carbon tax legislation

A Republican congressman is touting a proposal for a carbon tax that he says could appease stakeholders across the political spectrum — and he’s gotten some of his GOP colleagues on board.

What are the details?

Florida Rep. Carlos Curbelo introduced a bill in July that, if passed, would place a $24 per ton tax on carbon dioxide starting in 2020. Each year after that, the tax would be increased by 2 percent annually on top of the rate of inflation.

Speaking at the National Press Club after introducing the legislation, Curbelo said, “While there are still some deniers out there, most Americans today understand that climate change caused by human activity is a reality that must be addressed.

“I remind my colleagues who often decry our nation’s growing debt that saddling young Americans with a crushing environmental debt, meaning an unhealthy planet, is at least as immoral as leaving behind an unsustainable fiscal debt.”

The carbon tax would be imposed directly on businesses like power plants and refineries based on the amount of fossil fuels they purchase, and is projected to add anywhere from 3 to 11 cents to the cost of a gallon of gas purchased at the pump. It would replace the federal gas tax.

Revenue generated from the Florida congressman’s plan would go toward building infrastructure projects like the building and maintenance of roads and bridges.

What are the chances of the bill passing?

Curbelo acknowledged to the Washington Examiner and the Wall Street Journal that his proposal has little chance of passing, but he has managed to get other Republican lawmakers on board by making the case that the plan would benefit interests on both sides of the aisle.

“This is designed ambitiously,” Curbelo explained to the Journal. “For some, it will be a clean energy bill. For some, it will be an infrastructure bill. … For others, it will be the bill that saves the planet. And all of those characterizations will be accurate.”

Rep. Curbelo co-chairs the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus, and is seeking support for his plan from the group’s 42 other GOP members to back his legislation. Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Penn.) and Francis Rooney (R-Fla.) have jumped on to co-sponsor the bill.

Speaking at a roundtable meeting on Tuesday, Curbelo told participants, “There is a policy reality and a political reality, and we try to merge both.

“We have the need to act on climate. We also have the need to act on infrastructure. That is the one issue where both parties agree, and maybe the only issue the presidential candidates of 2016 agree on.”

The Examiner reported that Curbelo is seeking a senator to introduce a version of his legislation in the upper chamber, and if re-elected this fall, he intends to tour the country to promote the plan.

Levi Strauss to Spend Over $1 Million in Support of Increasing Gun Control

A recent political statement made by the CEO of Levi Strauss is likely to see the denim company torn apart just like the pair of jeans on the company’s iconic label.

Chip Bergh, the San Francisco-based company’s chief executive, announced the creation of the Safer Tomorrow Fund, an initiative aimed at “working to end gun violence in America."

“You may wonder why a company that doesn’t manufacture or sell guns is wading into this issue, but for us, it’s simple. Americans shouldn’t have to live in fear of gun violence. It’s an issue that affects all of us — all generations and all walks of life,” Bergh wrote in an op-ed published by Forbes.

Bergh concedes that taking a stance on such a socially divisive issue will drive some customers to purchase his competitors’ products. He believes advocacy of gun control is worth the potential loss in revenue. In his article, Bergh justified his move to financially assist the disarming of Americans:

As president and CEO of a values-driven company that’s known the world over as a pioneer of the American West and one of the great symbols of American freedom, I take the responsibility of speaking up on the important issues of our day very seriously. We can’t take on every issue. But as business leaders with power in the public and political arenas, we simply cannot stand by silently when it comes to the issues that threaten the very fabric of the communities where we live and work. While taking a stand can be unpopular with some, doing nothing is no longer an option.

Including the Safer Tomorrow Fund, Bergh announced a total of three programs the 165-year-old company will develop to achieve its goal of eliminating the right to keep and bear arms. The following description of the planks of the platform was provided by Bergh on a website devoted to the cause.

Ted Cruz Renews Call to Designate Muslim Brotherhood a Terrorist Group

Amidst a highly visible reelection campaign, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) renewed a call last week for the Muslim Brotherhood to be designated a terrorist organization.

This follows the Trump administration's designation earlier this year of two affiliates of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood – Hasm and Liwa al-Thawra – as terrorist organizations:

Afghanistan

‘Taliban Procedures’

The situation in Afghanistan, increasingly more strained since the beginning of August, remains tense. And it does not look like a simple deviation from the “standard violence” in the war-torn Islamic Republic.

On August 10, the Taliban attacked Ghazni, and it took four days for the Afghan military and the Americans (their radar station is located in the city) to recapture the occupied quarters. The total number of casualties in the fighting is estimated between 200 and 250 people. Taliban troops carried out successful attacks in the northern provinces of Faryab, Baghlan and Tahar. A suicide bomber blew himself up and others in Kabul in the Dasht-e-Barchi district, with the result of 48 killed in the Mawoud Academy (according to other sources, 34) and 67 injured, mostly students.

Within the day on August 15, at least 70 representatives of the Afghan law enforcement agencies were killed, which became an abysmal record in the long war.

On August 16 government troops came under attack in the Anjir district in Kandahar, the Taliban strike, which was aimed at the Americans, was repelled only with the help of the aviation. The next day, there was a major clash in the province of Farah in the west of the country. The security forces and the Taliban suffered serious losses.

Unconquerable Taliban

As shown by seventeen years since the American invasion of Afghanistan, it was not possible to defeat the Taliban. At the peak of its strength in 2011, the ISAF, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force consisted of 132 thousand people. Plus mercenaries from various PMCs, Afghan soldiers and officers, intelligence officers and the IRA police. But even then the defeat of the Taliban did not occur, only the area under their control decreased.

After the reduction of American troops, and it was the backbone and the majority of the ISAF, in 2014 under the Barak Obama Administration, the Taliban began to regain the lost positions and now, according to some estimates, about 70 percent of the territory of the IRA, in varying degrees, is the fiefdom of this movement. For example, residents of many settlements formally subordinate to the authorities in Kabul actually pay taxes to the Taliban.

The United States failed to crush the Taliban. Moreover, this problem is not on the shoulders of the Army, intelligence agencies or the IRA police. The United States presence in Afghanistan is due mainly through the special operations forces stationed there, CIA agents and military instructors from the Pentagon. In addition, PMCs operate in the country. However, the low level of training and organisation of the security forces subordinated to Kabul, their apparently insufficient high morale and the presence of the Taliban’s extensive intelligence network suggests that there was no adequate replacement for the ISAF in Afghanistan.

Crisis In Iraq’s Basra And Regional Balance Of Power

A series of violent protests in the city of Basra has caused a political crisis in Iraq as well as has started influecning the diplomatic situation over the war-torn country.

Last week, Basra protesters flooded the streets, clashing with security forces and torching the provincial headquarters, the Iranian consulate and offices of Iranian-backed Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq and Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba. Protesters also attempted to attack the US consulate but Iraqi security troops prevented this.

The protests left 12 demonstrators killed. Furthermore, on September 8, several rockets were fired at the Basra airport.

On September 12, the White House issued a statement claiming that Iran will be be held accountable for any possible harm to the US citizens stationed there.

“Over the past few days, we have seen life-threatening attacks in Iraq, including on the United States consulate in Basra and against the American embassy compound in Baghdad,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders stated on September 12. “Iran did not act to stop these attacks by its proxies in Iraq, which it has supported with funding, training, and weapons.”

“The United States will hold the regime in Tehran accountable for any attack that results in injury to our personnel or damage to United States government facilities. America will respond swiftly and decisively in defense of American lives.”

Protests in Basra started over the lack of jobs, electricity and safe drinking water, with hundreds taken to hospital after drinking contaminated water. However, then, the protests slowly shifted from the social economic demands to political and even partly sectarian issues. This situation is common for cases of the soft power usage in order to create protest crises in order to shape the political situation in the targeted country.

Meanwhile, it can be observed as two blocs are being formed by political and military political groups in Iraq: an Iranian-Iraqi bloc and an anti-Iranian front. If this anti-Iranian front is fully formed, it will be likely supported by the Gulf Monarhies. It’s also highly likely that the US and its allies will make an attempt to use this situation in order to achieve own goals.

In the current regional political situation, the ongoing developments in Basra go in favour for the US, which is now able to use this situation to fuel further its anti-Iranian campaign in the Middle East. This is an open secret for Iran and its allies. Thus, Teheran will likely contribute additional effrots in order to promote a settlement of the Basra crisis by political, and if this is needed by miltiary, measures.

The situation in Basra itself remains tense turning it into the area, which can be turned into a new hot point in the Middle East.

LEAKED VIDEO: Google Leadership’s Dismayed Reaction to Trump Election

A video recorded by Google shortly after the 2016 presidential election reveals an atmosphere of panic and dismay amongst the tech giant’s leadership, coupled with a determination to thwart both the Trump agenda and the broader populist movement emerging around the globe.

The video is a full recording of Google’s first all-hands meeting following the 2016 election (these weekly meetings are known inside the company as “TGIF” or “Thank God It’s Friday” meetings). Sent to Breitbart News by an anonymous source, it features co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, VPs Kent Walker and Eileen Naughton, CFO Ruth Porat, and CEO Sundar Pichai. It can be watched in full above. It can and should be watched in full above in order to get the full context of the meeting and the statements made.

It was reported earlier this week that Google tried to boost turnout among the Latino population to help Hillary Clinton, only to be dismayed as the usually solid Democratic voting bloc switched to the GOP in record numbers. This video shows a similar level of dismay among Google’s most high-profile figures.

These individuals, who preside over a company with unrivaled influence over the flow of information, can be seen disparaging the motivations of Trump voters and plotting ways to use their vast resources to thwart the Trump agenda.

Co-founder Sergey Brin can be heard comparing Trump supporters to fascists and extremists. Brin argues that like other extremists, Trump voters were motivated by “boredom,” which he says in the past led to fascism and communism.

The Google co-founder then asks his company to consider what it can do to ensure a “better quality of governance and decision-making.”

VP for Global Affairs Kent Walker argues that supporters of populist causes like the Trump campaign are motivated by “fear, xenophobia, hatred, and a desire for answers that may or may not be there.”

Later, Walker says that Google should fight to ensure the populist movement – not just in the U.S. but around the world – is merely a “blip” and a “hiccup” in a historical arc that “bends toward progress.”

CEO Sundar Pichai states that the company will develop machine learning and A.I. to combat what an employee described as “misinformation” shared by “low-information voters.”

Key moments from the video can be found at the following timestamps:
