Smart meters are mandated by law in Mass. They use wifi and can be hacked. If I had a smart meter I would I buy an EMP bag (you can find them on the web (and at Amazon of course) and put it over the meter to block any signals. If the gas company complains, fuck'em. They can still read the meter the old-fashioned way.
