this is a very random question maybe someone in here knows appliances well enough to tell me wtf I am dealing with.

I have a fridgiare no freezer refrigerator that is about 3.5 years old. fru17g4jw24 is the model if that matters.

The other night I smelled something that smelled like a cross between a wax melting and plastic melting. Just a hot melting smell. Traced it back to the INSIDE of the fridge. Had just opened the fridge door. Fridge still runs, still normal temperature, except that sometimes when it runs I can still smell this hot smell inside. It's also getting into the food. Had an appliance guy out here and he couldn't smell it, charged me $40 just to look at it for 5 minutes, told me everything was normal.

I have had the cover off the inside and looked at the evaporator and the fan, thought maybe the bearings in the fan blew out- however fan seems normal, inside evaporator had light icing on it which as far as I know is normal. Couldn't smell the suspect smell at the fan- have only been able to smell it in the top of the fridge.

Any ideas? Fridge guy thought maybe the door light was on constantly causing the problem but it appears to be working normally.

HELL NO and I will never buy one that is AI.

If I can't figure out wtf is wrong with this fridge I'm going to buy a chest freezer and convert it to a fridge. Already have the controller.

TY anonโ€ฆ. I just took the light bulb out of the fridge. Would be great if that's all that's wrong.

Pulled out fridge to check and nothing visible, also, smell is only inside fridge, nothing outside. It's very very odd.

One thing I forgot to mention is that there's a green puddle on the floor under fridge, dried up of course.
