Ok. Mans problem has been, "let us make us a name." Genesis 11:4 Man has this insatiable desire for riches, material things and fame. Babylon was the restart after the flood. What did eve see in the tree?(Genesis 3:6) lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life (1 John 2:16).
Jesus teaches us to deny our fleshy desires, of fame, money and stuff. Luke 9:23 is a great start here. He spends our entire lives beating "self" out of us. to endure ridicule and criticism from others (taking up our cross) being made fun of, hated and even killed in many cases.
A Christians life is to be wrought with tribulation, "the narrow way" Matthew 7:13-14. Narrow way is Thlibo greek from Thelipsis = tribulation. We are to agonize over sinning and doing right everyday in order to get to heaven. to be CONTENT with our lot in life. I have never seen any church in all my life teach this truth.
