People saw a "small" plane, which was the missile shot off the Woolworth Building, maybe as a fakeout and I don't know why else, which is what the police were called for, there's radio recording. They were met by men in black who told them everything was honkydory, as noted in the police report.
Three different TV stations had three contradictory CGI attempts, showing three different versions of a plane. On one TV station the screen went dark at the critical moment, laughingly lame. The missile can be seen exiting the building in at least one shot, the buildings were hollow and it just sailed on through.
It's been over a decade since I looked, but to my mind and recollection, the independent video footage with planes that would show up periodically looks doctored via editing program, such as the Naudet brothers and the guy driving down a nearby highway, but I'd have to go look again to say I think it's true for all footage.
